Introduction
Yusuf عليه السلام faced every trial a young man can face — betrayal by his own brothers, kidnapping, slavery, seduction by a powerful woman, false imprisonment, and finally, absolute royal power. Any one of these would have broken most of us. He walked through all of them upright. The question we should be asking, especially now, is not what Yusuf did. It is what his father Ya'qub planted in him — before the trials began — that could not be shaken.
Historical Context
Ya'qub sensed something in Yusuf — a dream, a spiritual gravity — and shielded him without spoiling him. When the tragedy came, he did not curse fate. He said, ṣabrun jamīl — beautiful patience. When he lost his sight from weeping, he did not lose his tawakkul. That grief-with-dignity was itself the final lesson to his other sons. He parented through his response to suffering more than through any speech.
