Introduction
When the Muslims chose Abu Bakr as their first caliph, he stood on the minbar and asked the assembled ummah a single question that no leader in the modern corporate hierarchy has the humility to ask. It is a question that quietly separates the sincere leader from the ambitious one. If you cannot ask it — you should not accept the seat.
Historical Context
Abu Bakr's first speech: 'I have been placed in authority over you, though I am not the best among you. If I do well, help me. If I do wrong, correct me. Obey me only so long as I obey Allah and His Messenger. If I disobey them, do not obey me.' The room did not applaud performative humility. He meant every word — and demonstrated it in the two years that followed.
